We were very privileged to have the English National Opera visit Newfield this morning - yes seriously!
Around 20 of the amazingly talented musicians and performers took an early train from London to come up to see us and perform for our brilliant children.
5 classes took part in a ENO led music compositional project around colour in the autumn term - ENO Finish This….
Today those students had the wonderful opportunity to part in a sensory music session and hear their own compositions played to them.
They also experienced a soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and bass singer.
They were enthralled by the live music performed by a harpist and the players of tuba, trumpet and clarinet.
Students enjoyed the display of colour and music that was performed to them - we were delighted to see the artists signing and engaging our children and young people.
The performers were in turn rewarded by the uninhibited joy of our learners, who joined in, were fascinated and spellbound by the sounds they were hearing.
We would like to say a massive thank you to ENO for travelling into school and giving us such a fabulous opportunity to listen to some live music!
I had goosebumps all the way through, I thought I was going to cry, and the expression on A’s face with the musicians was incredible.
Just amazing! All the staff had goosebumps and the students were so engaged in the session. We noticed in difference in the students after the session too, they were so vocal in class! Thank you so much for organising Gemma, we loved it and really appreciate all your effort.
My pupils thoroughly enjoyed the ENO today. They were all so engaged with each performance, a particular highlight was the harp as well as dancing under coloured umbrellas with bubbles floating around us. The session showed us how music can be used to show our emotions, something we do a lot of work on in an our therapeutic classroom. We would do it all over again tomorrow if we could!
