Communication - Makaton

Each Monday as part of our total communication approach we have sing and sign assemblies across the school for the different age phases.

We practice a sign of the week from the Makaton charity and in Primary practice some key signs to take back to class, for example linked to our curriculum topic or that we use in our class routines.

Currently we are focusing on weather vocabulary. We also practice using these in different, related songs such as ‘here comes the sun’, before sharing some other fun and favourite signing songs to develop our confidence and growing signing vocabularies.

They are fun sessions, with so many of our children enjoying and responding positively to music, and support our use of Makaton signing across the school.

What a lovely way to start each week!
