Today we have enjoyed some activities to mark 80 years of Victory in Europe. VE Day was declared on 8 May 1945, after Britain and its allies formally accepted Nazi Germany’s surrender after almost six years of war.
At 3pm, the then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced World War Two in Europe had come to an end - VE Day.
We had put up bunting and had flags to wave!
Some of our students danced around the Maypole to celebrate!
Friend of Newfield, Peter Adamson - aka the music man - joined us to sing rousing songs.
We had a great time with our usual Thursday visit from our friends at Stonyhurst, who joined us for our VE themed wheelchair dancing session.
We all enjoyed dancing to the old fashioned ‘British’ songs that lifted spirits, united nations and made the sound track for the unforgettable celebrations of VE Day.
There were lots of smiles from both our students and our friends from Stonyhurst College.
What a wonderful celebration!
